  • Boy Scout Roundtable -- Tuesday 11/10/09 at 7:30pm. Program: Troopmaster 101. For all leaders and scout parents.
  • Yanush Chapter Meeting -- Tuesday November 10th. Program: Unit Elections Training and parking lot extravaganza. OA unit election registration begins November 15th and elections begin December 1st.
  • Cub Roundtable -- 11/12/09 at 7:00PM. Program: Works of Art is featured this month at cub roundtable. Come join in the fun as we break out some crayolas and tap into the artist that is in each one of us. Extra cub bucks for anyone that brings an art display of any kind to the table.
  • Cub Scouts Wanted! -- Recruiting is a year round activity. Packs can still include Join Scouting Flyers in school folders inviting perspective boys and parents to pack meetings or events. Let's get as many new boys in quickly to get them signed up time for pinewood derbies and fall campouts.   • Popcorn -- Popcorn sales were a great success this year. Pack 437 was the top selling pack in North Trail with $31,840.00. Troop 82 sold $38,681.00 and Troop 437 sold $48,867.00. They were the top two selling troops in Circle Ten. North Trail sold a total of $549,651 this year, which is an increase over last year's total of $527,385. Deadline for turning in money is December 5th at 1pm.
  • Scouting for Food -- Bag Distribution is Saturday, February 13 and Bag Collection is Saturday, February 20. There are still areas available. With all of the unemployment in our area, the need is very great. A small investment of time by you and your unit will make a difference in the lives of countless numbers of our neighbors.
  • Dallas Heritage Village Scout Day -- Saturday, November 14th. Union and Confederate troops gather at the Village for Civil War on the Home Front. Participate in hands-on activities, visit with Civil War re-enactors and historic characters, witness a battle re-enactment. Tickets are only $5/person if purchased by November 11.
  • North Trail in the News -- Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers participated in "deCANstruction" at the Galleria Dallas mall. More than 1,400 people - Cub Scouts, siblings and adult volunteers - attended the 2009 North Trail to Adventure - Cubs & Heroes.

Training Opportunities: Scouts Deserve Trained Leaders

  • Boy Scout Outdoor Leader Skills --
  • Weekend of 11/13/09, Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Learn by being a part of an actual scout troop. Excellent training and a lot of fun. For all Adult Boy Scout Leaders and parents who work directly with scouts and Webelos II leaders who will be crossing over to a troop in the near future. Register now.
  • Scout Leader Training (Spanish) -- Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, (location corrected) Camp Wisdom. Descriptive flyer in Spanish.
  • University of Scouting -- Saturday January 9, 2010. Something for everyone in all aspects of the scouting program. Course Schedule. On-line Registration
  • Backcountry Advanced Training -- Classroom 2/11/10 and 2/18/10. Weekend campout 2/26-28/10. Evening and weekend camping program designed to teach vital skills for high adventure bound leaders and seasoned scouts.
  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid Course -- Two weekends: 2/12-14/10 & 2/19-21/10. Serious course with 40 hours of instruction over the two weekends.
  • Powder Horn -- Two weekends 3/12/10 and 3/26/10 High Adventure Skills Resource Course, Camp Wisdom.

Venturing:

  • Venturing Forum, -- Tuesday, 11/17/09 at 7:30pm. Program: COPE. Note: New location, room 210, Education Bldg. First United Methodist Church, Richardson.
  • Pirate Ad-Venturing Weekend -- 21st-22nd of November, Camp Wisdom. Venturers and adults who want to shoot pistols must have passed the NRA Basic Pistol Marksmanship Course or attend the Friday evening class beginning at 7:00 p.m. on the 20th, camping will be available on Friday night There will be several events including orienteering, black powder shooting, pirate games, a movie night, and much more. The cost is $25 which includes lunch and dinner Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Everyone attending will get a T-shirt and have a lot of fun! Signup Form Release Form
  • Venturing Rendezvous -- 4/9/10 - 4/11/10 Camp Wisdom.

General:

  • Membership Fee Increase -- Beginning in January, 2010, National membership fees will be $15 for both scouts and adults.
  • Training Requirement -- Beginning in January, 2010, every unit leader must be trained. There will be a one year grace period. Training consists of: Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, Cub Master Specific or Scoutmaster Specific or Venture Specific with the outdoor portion for Scoutmaster and Venture Leaders.
  • District Committee -- meeting, Tuesday 12/1/09 at 7:15pm. Room 205, FUMC Richardson.
  • Unit Commissioners -- meeting, Thursday 12/3/09. 7:30PM. RISD Admin Building, Richardson.
  • Philmont Report -- Stephen Carpenter was at the Philmont Training Center recently and he submitted this report.
  • Woodbadge Training 2010/2011 -- This is advanced leadership training for adult scouters. This intensive course will have a profound impact on your life both in and out of scouting.
  • Good Turn For America -- National call for service.
  • Uniform Closet -- North Trail District has a "clothes closet" for "gently used and experienced" uniforms and other scouting materials. These items are available to scouts who need them.
  • Welcome Home a Hero Today -- Everyday, Soldiers return from overseas at DFW airport, help show your support and welcome these men and women home.
  • Email Newsletter -- Don't believe the myth that the newsletter is only for cubmasters and scoutmasters. The newsletter is intended for every adult in the district including parents. Don't miss out on an event because you heard about it too late. Sign up now.
